Graduated in International Relations from El Colegio de México and the University of Sussex (United Kingdom), Maria Francisca Ize-Charrin worked most of her professional career at the United Nations (UN). For many years she worked for the “1503 procedure”, then she became Secretary of the Commission on Human Rights of the UN. She followed closely the process of establishment of the Human Rights Council (HRC). She finished her career in late 2008 as Acting Director of the Division of Field Operations and Director of the Division of Research and Right to Development at the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) in Geneva.

Maria Francisca Ize-Charrin was a founding member of WaterLex, and President of its Board from 2011 to 2014. She was then appointed as Honorary President (2015-2020).
