After serving as President of the WaterLex Board since 2014, Professor Eibe Riedel has decided to step down as President. Eibe is an expert on human rights law and, among other notable positions, he has served as a member of the UN Committee on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights (1998 to 2012) where he was involved in drafting Comment no.15 on the Human Right(s) to Water and Sanitation. We are happy to confirm that he will remain on the board as he steps down from his Presidency. WaterLex took this opportunity to award Eibe for his services to WaterLex and to recognise his part in the wider establishment of these human rights.
The Board now warmly welcomes Anders Johnsson as the new President of WaterLex, effective from 27 September 2018. Anders brings with him many years of international experience in governance, democracy and humanitarian fields, notably as the former Secretary General of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) for 16 years. During his tenure at IPU he took a leading role in helping to modernise the century old organisation, develop its democracy activities and provide a parliamentary interface to the United Nations.
Anders steps into his role at an exciting time for WaterLex, as we launch the 1st World Summit on Leaving No One Behind. WaterLex is becoming a visible force in the drive to realise solutions for achieving Sustainable Development Goal 6 (SDG 6) on water and sanitation and we have the perfect President for this task.
